Anything to the fact that both Cy Young winners came out of the weak central divisions of both leagues?
No anomaly in my opinion, the divisions were just that weak. Both winners, not to mention Darvish and Maeda too.

A couple years ago when Bauer was doing really well with the Tribe I thought he definitely had the stuff. Whether he could get his head on straight was the issue. I think he benefited from the short season. I could see last season’s Reds team cliff diving if it was a full 162 and Bauer getting uninterested.
Did I mention he’s a free agent? I’d love to see him in a Twins uniform. They need a little more urine and vinegar in their clubhouse in my opinion.
If this club EVER had a shot at landing a legit ace I think it’s this offseason. NO club is going to be spending top dollar in free agency.

I’d pass on that. His days of taking one year deals are over now. I’m not sure I would want to risk big money on him winning 15-20 year in and year out. Although he has been durable health wise he just has that rogue cowboy in him that would make me nervous. Besides how do you start this conversation……“Um Mr. Pohlad, we would like to sign Trevor Bauer to a four year $120 million dollar deal. We are confident he will hold up physically, our numbers show he will go 4 innings each start! So, that’s only a 120 innings based on 30 starts. Mr. Pohlad we feel that’s a bargain and we need him.”
Ya, me don’t think that fly’s with the bankers.

I don’t think anyone will be dishing out multiyear deals this offseason.
The big boys will still get paid although there might be games played and attendance contingency’s attached to them.
I heard on the radio the Twins are in negotiations with the St. Paul Saints to become their triple A team. They are speculationing the deal to be worth millions. That will be interesting if that happens. Old Rocko will be able to burn up 10 pitchers a game with replacements that close.
I’d heard that too, I believe they already officially severed ties with Rochester (NY). The Saints have been a very positive attraction to the area and being independent adds some mystique and uniqueness to their product.
Having said that I think having them as the AAA affiliate for the Twins will be pretty good for the market around here. Whereas now they Saints are quite a unique attraction, they will now have direct ties to the pro ballclub so there will be a lot more meaning behind who’s on the field. You may also see guys like a Sano or Donaldson (just purely examples) doing a quick rehab stint, which will be great for that club. Gives families an opportunity to see some all-star caliber players on such a smaller and more intimate scale. If they do this right it’ll bring a big positive change to the local baseball scene, just my opinion.
I would LOVE to see a Twins minor league team play in the area. Theres a decent article on Twins daily about the possibility. To summarize, and if i remember correctly, the Saints would no longer have to compete with the Twins for followers/ticket sales but they’d have to pay upwards of $20 mil to join the MILB, likely give up the fun promotions they’ve always had and things they do to draw in fans, and run the risk of not drawing as many fans as they have in the independent league. Guess they usually draw more fans than almost every minor league team does. I do think they’d be a big draw though.
The Saints always tried to put a winning team together. Winning was important. Winning becomes secondary to developing talent if you become an affiliate.
If you are a Saints ticket holder you need to be careful what you ask for.
I think that would be great. Saints games are fun but the baseball really is about A level. I have many friends who played for them and I myself was close to making the team a couple times. So to have AAA baseball AND the Twins top prospects I think would be a huge positive. AND being in St Paul I’d probably go to more of their games than the big club.
Heres a interesting read from the Athletic concerning the value and closing down of 42 minor league teams. It’s not as In-Depth as it could be but still offers some good insight.
Looks like the Saints will be the Twins AAA affiliate. That’s great news! If LaVelle reports on it, you know it’s true.

That actually is really cool if it’s happening. I’d much rather be in St Paul than Minneapolis any day of the week and having the top Twins prospects playing for the Saints makes it an even bigger draw.
I’m pumped. I’ve been waiting for this to happen for years, now its finally come and they’ll be playing in my backyard. Be cool to see Royce and Larnach suit up so close to home. Very good chance I end up going to more Saints games next summer than I do Twins. That’s if I can go to a single game at all, of course

x2! CHS is a great place to watch a ballgame or a carnival aka Saints game.
I think Mahto & Tbro should get a pair of season tickets.
I’m up for it. Maybe Tbro can be the head Analytics guy for them……I’ll just be there to chide him when it doesn’t result in playoff wins.
Goodbye Trevor May. Wasn’t a big fan of his but somehow he seemed to struggle through most of his appearances without giving up too many leads. Our bullpen gets thinner…..
What was your favorite Eddie Rosario moment? Mine would probably be all the ways his terrible defense cost us runs every season……
Hello Alex Kirilloff
The throw away line by LaVelle that the Twins were in on Morton is laughable.
Signed Duffey to a one year. Good move.

Many people have reported that. Not saying it’s true but it’s not just Lavelle.
I never wonder why the team would go after the player. I always wonder why would the player be interested in the team.
I can’t come up with one reason Morton would be interested in the Twins.

He wasn’t interested in them last year (or year before, can’t remember) when the Twins were going after him either.
On a side not Rosario cleared waivers essentially meaning (as I understood it), the Twins could re enter arbitration talks with him and basically use the fact that he went unclaimed to get him at a cheaper one year deal. If they don’t offer him a deal by 7pm he’s a free agent.
He will hit the bricks with a couple hundred other guys. This will be a blood bath for the players.
What do you do with Sano? Leave him at first? Move him back to third and move Kirilloff to first? Have him DH when you lose Cruz?
Maybe move Polanco over to third and let one of the kids play SS?
So many options.

Yup there will be a lot of big names on the open market.
They are not moving Sano or anybody to third. They just spent some good coin on their third basemen last off season. Now keeping your third basemen healthy is the question.
Kiriloff will likely take one of the corner outfield spots. At least for the next season.
