twelve volt wiring.

I have 2 twelve volt batteries for my trolling motor, i purchased a selector switch to change from one to the other when one gets low. The switch only has positive poles and i need to know what to do with the negatives. Will it hurt to hook the negatives togather?

That helps on parrallel wiring for sure, but im trying to avoid parallel wiring because i would have to charge two batteries at the end of the day vs one. I don’t always need an extra battery when i fish, but some days i do. I got the switch so it would be easier than unhooking one and having to move the cables to the other. But i have no idea what to do with the negatives because the switch only has positive poles.
