Turning on ice fishing mode Helix 10 SI Gen 3

I’ve read the Humminbird instructions and watched you tubes, can’t find ice fishing listed on any menu? Any suggestions

Hit the menu button twice, scroll down toward the bottom of the “Sonar” tab. There should be setting named “open water”. Change that to ice fishing mode by clicking the right arrow. If you don’t see that setting, it could be that you need to do a software update.

so I restored defaults. Download the current software 2.930. Turned unit on, removed my map chip and inserted 4GB SD card. But the Unit didn’t acknowledge it?

Hmmm. You’re absolutely certain you downloaded the correct update for your specific unit? I have had it happen where it takes a few minutes for the unit to recognize the card. As long as you followed the instructions exactly per the HB website I don’t know what to tell you. Other than trying a different SD card.

Go to the Setup menu and make sure the user mode is set to Custom. I believe the units default to Angler mode which has less options in the menus.

I’ve had birds not read chips. It’s frustrating. I just keep taking in and out until it reads.

I’m not sure if it is the same as Lowrance, but for Lowrance units you need the card with the update on it in the unit before powering up.

Also you can not skip any updates, cant go from 1 to 4, have to go to 2 then 3 and then 4 if that makes sense.
