I am going to hunt 1st and 4th season here in Iowa. Gonna go into Walley World the day before and get my tag…. Draw for a tag ? Oh thats right we don’t have to do that anymore here…. sorry guys just had to rub it in alittle. I feel for ya though. It would suck to have to draw tags. Build up all the anticipation for the hunt and then not be able to go. I would think that our Northern Brothers would have enough birds now that you too would not have to still use the draw system.

I got mine to. I hope the hunt takes a little longer than my last hunt though. It was my first time out and I was back to my truck in under 40 minutes!

I recieved my permit in the mail yesterday. Zone 20 but I didn’t pay close attention
to which time zones. It says I’m good for two. Anyone else hunting zone 20.
Hey Rainman2 if it’s too soon just yell BANG!!!! Its a hunters kind of catch and release.

I asked one of the conservation officers about Turkey Preference Points the other day. Every year you apply for the turkey permit drawing, you accumulate a preference point. Each time you get drawn for a permit, your accumulated points go down to 0. The higher the number of accumulated preference points you have, the more likely you are to get drawn.

Your likelyhood to get drawn depends on:
1.) The number of permits available for your zone and season
2.) The number of landowner applicants for your zone and season
3.) The number of general applicants for your zone and season
    4.) Your accumulated preference points

If there’s 300 permits and only 200 applicants, then preference points never come into play and everyone hunts. That seems to be the case with the seasons that occur in mid to late May, there are frequently left-over permits for those seasons (think the fishing opener has anything to do with that?)

My group’s been applying for area 349 – first season for a few years now. Our preference points were 3 and we just finally got drawn this year.

First year I have applied and got one in Wi right across the river. Seems a tad late though. May 12-16. Maybe I can just fill my tag by taking an egg out of a nest and having it for breakfast.

Suzuki, I’ve had that late season a few times and if you don’t mind a few bugs, its great hunting. The hens are starting to nest up, and aren’t as active anymore. The gobblers are still ready to go and they gobble up a storm. Had the best responses out of gobblers to my calls in the later seasons. It has always been a blast, but what hunting isn’t…GOOD LUCK

I got drawn in WI again May 12th – 16th. I believe this is the 5th year in a row. This is the first year I didn’t draw the last season since I was a college resident in LaCrosse. Must not have been very many applicants in zone 8 this year.
Got denied in MN and won’t be in the state when the surplus license are available. I’m heading down to Texas on a hog hunt. I’ve never done this before so it should be quite an experience.
Good luck to those who got drawn and good luck to those trying to get a surplus license. If any of you guys are hunting in SE MN and need a camera man. My spring is pretty wide open except for May 12-16 so let me know if you are willing to sit in front of a camera and I’ll check my schedule to see if it works out.

Yup, going down to texas with Jason. Good luck getting a permit in 343, the pickings look pretty slim this year. I don’t understand why 343 is so popular. Getting access to land isn’t very easy if you’re not from the area and there isn’t near the amount of public land as our neighbors to the east and south. I’ll post some pictures if we get any pigs.
