Barred Owl Hooter Call

Years ago I tried to learn how to make a barred owl call but never got it down and just gave up. I just sounded goofy and didn’t appear to be making any progress. But from my experience in the woods, if anything is going to get a tom to shock gobble, it’s the barred owl. I’m looking for suggestions for a good call and maybe an instructional video or u-tube video clip that shows how it’s done. By next spring, I want to have it perfected.

Anybody have any experience with the barred owl call in the fall season. Do the toms gobble to it in the fall or mostly just the spring?

    Thanks,

I use the Quaker Boy call.

It has worked well for me, as I’ve had several birds shock gobble in response. The only drawback I’ve found (if you can call it that), is that I have to blow fairly hard to get the volume I’m looking for. Super easy to use, and the price was right…I think I paid about $8.00.

Quaker Boy makes a good one, and the larger hollow body chamber calls are pretty easy to blow.

The best sounding ones I’ve heard are typically the shape of a goose call however. I’m in love with the Hook’s Harrison’s Hoot ‘n Stick. I’ve never blown the Walnut call, but the Synthetic sure sounds good. Takes more air, but it sounds more realistic to my ear.
