While turkey hunting early on Memorial Day in west central Wisconsin, I had this fisher come by me. When it saw me, it went up a tree and climbed around it for several minutes. It was a very good climber. It did not appear to be afraid of me at all. Rather it seem like it was kind of curious. It kept making a low volume call which is hard for me to describe. I’ve never seen one of these before and felt fortunate to get the chance to see one. The photo is not very good as I was facing the rising sun on most pictures but this was the best one I got. After about 10 minutes I moved on.

They are becoming more and more common. We saw our first one 3 years ago at our farm. Now we see them more often and I get them on trail cam a few times a month. My kid called one in this year when turkey hunting too. It came running down the tree looking for the turkey. I am torn on what to think. It is a pretty aggressive predator that seems to like turkey, not to mention grouse, ducks and many others that I like to hunt. I wonder how many young turkeys they eat?
