Headed out this morning with a good buddy for a short stint before he had to go to work. It looked like it would perfectly coincide with the incoming rain, and we would have a few hours before the storm cut loose.

We arrived around 500 and the birds stayed pretty quiet until about 530 when a lone gobbler sounded off from the roost a few hundred yards away. Things escalated as 2 more birds joined in. We snuck closer to the edge of the property we could hunt. The birds jumped off the roost around 545 and promptly shut up. They didn’t start gobbling again until they were safely 100 yards out into the field with a group of ladies. Slowly they worked across the field towards us, growing more excited. Eric had a great high pitched yelp that cracked at the end, which they responded to with double and triple gobbles. The lone hen made a move across the tree line and out into the adjacent field, staying out about 70 yards. The rain broke loose around the time we had to go.

So in conclusion, we would have had a great opportunity as it got later in the morning! Work….pshhh! Who needs it!
