Strutting Tom or a Jake Decoy

I’ve got an Zink Avian Lookout Hen decoy and I’m thinking about adding either an Avian Strutter Tom or their Jake decoy. Which would you guys choose? I’ve never had much luck with decoys and generally don’t use them but I’ll be taking my 11 year old boy so I might plan to stay in a blind and put some decoys out and hope that we can get something to come close.

I’ve seem some pictures of the Dave Smith Stutting Tom and I think it looks even better than the Zink Avian Tom but the $200 price tag is pretty steep. I think the Avain Toms run about $129m, which is pretty expensive itself.

    Thanks,

Had been a real believer in the full strut, BUT I have also had a lot of birds that would come to the field or field edge and get nervous once decoy was visible and turn right around. I guess it all depends on the bird. If he has just got his [censored] kicked all week I’m sure he would be hesitant about coming in. I have several fans Full, Jake, and half strut to help coax less superior birds. With that being said I would get a good looking Jake from what I’ve hunted this year truly awesome two kills this year matched with two hens. Freinds have been using the last few years with great success, plus they pack easier.

I also have scared off subordinate Toms with a full strut decoy. I have my best luck with a Jake mounting a hen set up.
