The FW and I applied and got drawn for a Turkey tags this spring.
I have a couple questions for you Turkey gurus.
One of the areas we are going to be hunting is near a creek and I couldn’t find anything in the turkey regs about using steel shot if you are hunitng within X distance of open water. Can I use lead or should I stick to the steelshot to be safe knowing water is probaly only 30-40 yds away at the most?
Kinda bummed about the shot size limit of 4 or smaller since I have a bunch of 3.5 inch steel #3 that patterns really well from my shotgun.
Just to narrow my search and spending a little what are good turkey loads that I should get and pattern?
Do you guys use full chokes or aftermarket chokes? I have been using my steel modified choke that came with my beretta and have no troubles killing geese so I was thinking of sticking with that choke. Here again I know it depends on patterning but some choke guidance would also be appreciated.
Lasty and more importantly….any rookie pitfalls I should try to avoid? Besides don’t miss.
Thanks in advance.
