That last consecutive winters have brought many layers of ice that remained in the woods and blanketed the fields here at my farm north of Richland Center. I didn’t realize how bad it was until I scanned through nearly 2000 trail cam pics. 2 toms and 1 hen. Then add in that I haven’t seen or heard a single turkey while hunting for w a week so far during our gun deer seasonn.
I regret to even have to consider this, but given the current conditions and already cold start to this mid fall, I will not be offering any guided hunts at my properties. The long term view of the flocks are most important and I need to see a rebound before continuing to hunt here. I know a couple guys already inquired and I sent you a personal email before posting. My website will be updated to reflect this soon.

Randy keep this updated with what you are seeing for birds this winter and early spring. I will be down in Richland Center this spring turkey hunting a new farm one of my land owners just picked up. He has said there are many birds on it but would like some more local inputs on the birds. More info I have for turkeys in that area will be better. Thanks

Over the last three days I have been at my farm and running back/forth to Reedsberg hospital. I’m seeing a few birds here and there over the 22 mile ride each way, but far and few in between. Granted, I know there are a few places holding birds. I saw about 20 in one field along 80 south of RC. But that was enough to get me excited because i haven’t seen that many at once in a LONG time.

That is good news. Still have the winter to get through but should still be a fun spring. I will give this post a bump when we get closer to the spring. Going to be a long few months waiting on the spring.
