Last Friday Todd and I busted our getting out to a known travel path for the birds. The snow was so deep, when we hunkered down only our heads were showing above the snow. We sat for quite a while with new snow arriving by the minute. Finally we spotted our first bird!

A hen was about 60 yards to the south of us…. AS SHE FLEW BACK UP TO ROOST at 7:30AM ish. She sat in that tree for a while then flew further back into the woods. At that point we decided to pull the pin and go have breakfast.

Of course we had to scoop out my truck first. Guess who took out his grain shovel last week to make room for his hunting stuff? Well, an old folding chair will work in a pinch.

This photo is the main meadow/field I hunted. This was Thursday AM before we got the new snow. As you can see, still lots of snow up north.

As I headed for lunch on Thursday I spotted this dog. I quickly got my rifle out and put a sneak on him. Got to 250 yards and whacked him. Made my day. He still had a very nice thick coat on him. Wish we had buyers who would have taken him.

In case I haven’t said it enough lately, I LOVE MY AXIS 22-250!!

I was surprised how great his fur was for this time of year.
