My boy is 8. He kind of gave me a hard time for not taking him with this past weekend. So with that, I see that 12 and under do not have to pay, but only go get the licence. Can he go anytime or do I have to wait for the over the counter seasons?

Then what are the rules??? I would obviously be with him, helping him hold and shoot. Is that wrong???? Or is he expected to shoot on his own????

Perfect!!! Thanks Jason, I get him on some shooting sticks and get the blind set up. Appreciate the help.

Don’t know why he waited. I asked him if he wanted to go with. Guess, you don’t know what your missing until it’s too late.

Here is my plan Bob. My daughter is 8 now and is asking to go also. I told her she could hunt next year if she proves she can hit the target at 20 yards off the shooting sticks. We will be using a youth 20 gauge, probably with 4 shot. I plan to work her up with a .22 and .17 calibers this summer and by fall be shooting the 20 gauge. Then by next spring, she’ll be ready.

I’ve tried finding the specific regulations on several items lately on the DNR website. Both the website and regulations book are very poorly organized in my opinion.

    Agreed Kooty.

I figured since we were all going to be down at the land this weekend burying our old buddy Bear. Maybe this would be a good distraction for him. What the heck, if he changes his mind, it’s a free tag. I’ll be with him, and at least we’ll be hanging out and talking about life and what ever else he decides to vent about.

I absolutely love my time in the blind with the girls. Our last sit I explained how most baby animals are born in the spring so they can grow up before winter etc… Nothing better than the questions kids come up with.

Almost the same for me. My daughter is 9 and wanted to hunt this season. I told here she needs to wait till next season. Going to get her started shooting this summer. Hopefully by next spring she will be ready with the 20 Gauge.

Sounds like many of us are on the same program. I’ve got an 8 year old that will be just turning 9 next spring. He’s getting pretty good with a BB gun, and we’ll be working him up to the 20 gauge by fall. Can’t wait!

He has shot before with me…..Just not a 3″ Winchester I remember GMAN telling a story about Gunner shooting trap load or 7 shot during practice time. Something like that andway and then when the turkey came through. KAWAM. Gunner gave him quite the look from the recoil.
