Tough go so far this year in the second season, had 2 long beards run in opening morning only to be spooked off by four jakes that snuck in from behind….8 yards and never gave me a shot.
Rain, snow and wind everyday and I noticed all the birds locally were still tightly bunched, I racked my brain for a spot I may have that actually had birds winter on it…lightbulb. Remebered a spot I had a few years back, made a call last night and secured it. Snuck into the valley at 4 am with gear galore and got set up….they were there, 3 longbeards. I called really softly and got an immediate response..hammered the whole way in and they commenced to pounding the DSD’s. I centered the biggest one and he flopped over.
Heard a ton of gunfire in the distance this AM as well, something I have not heard all week.
