April 21, 2013 at 3:27 pm #130123Took the kid out Fri am. Had this guy come in and took him at 43 yds. 18.5 lb jake w a 5″ beard This weathers is crazy the first time I’ve ever hunted turkeys in the snow!!! GoodLuck everyone
April 22, 2013 at 6:27 pm #130152I connected with a Jake yesterday about 10AM.
After hunting hard for 3.5 days I was mentally and physically ready to be done. As I was driving the ATV back to my truck I spotted a group of 6 Jakes. I made an attempt to get in front of them with no luck, they zigged and I zagged. As I tried to hustle through snow up past my knees and thighs in several spots, I was hopeful they would be waiting for me ahead in some standing corn. Lucky for me, the wind was really howling yesterday AM. I was able to sneak through the crunchy snow into a spot I felt would put me in range. Sure enough, even before I could catch my breath, here they came. I didn’t see anyone that was better than the other so I shot the one who offered the clearest shot.
Definitely the most challenging turkey hunt I’ve ever been on.
April 22, 2013 at 8:55 pm #130160Congrats! I can only imagine how tough the hunt was with all the snow

April 24, 2013 at 10:02 pm #130175Me? saw quite a few but no luck, Step son Justin took this bird on Tuesday
April 25, 2013 at 3:32 pm #130183Keeping in the theme of turkey pics with snow in the background, here is my buddy Jim with his Tom from last Sunday… Up early and out the door, his bird gobbled off the roost on his property from the SE corner. He was out to him, setup and had him in to the decoy to shoot at 6:00. His first bird in the Northwoods and his first off his own 40 acres!!! The Wisconsin River in the background…
May 3, 2013 at 10:51 pm #130320Picked my 14 yr old nephew Hunter up on Friday after school in Stillwater to go Turkey hunting for the 1st time. The trek back up to St. Cloud sucked because of traffic. (2.5 hrs later ) I was reminded why I couldn’t live in the cities.
Went straight to scouting and located some birds and tucked them in. Woke up early and parked the truck to listen for gobbles. We weren’t out of the truck for 5 mins before we heard our 1st one. Too our surprise there were more Toms gobbling than we saw the night before. So, we set up the blind and I put the hen decoy on a corn stalk. I hop into the blind and my nephew says; “hey, is that a turkey right there?” I look over to the left and see 8-10 headed our way. We were only in the blind for around 15 mins and he ended up shooting his 1st Thunder Chicken. Wt. 24 lbs, Beard 11″, & Spurs 1.25″. Hunter is one happy kid and I’m one happy Uncle.

May 14, 2013 at 6:11 pm #130421My brother took a buddies 9 yr old boy out. He claimed to have shot rabbits and squirrels before. When he pulled the trigger on the 20 gauge at this Jake, it knocked him completely off his stool and while he was laying flat on his back on the ground, he looked up at my brother and said “did I get him”? He sure did. Even though I took a nice tom with my bow out in SoDak a few days earlier, I was much happier for the little guy
May 14, 2013 at 6:25 pm #130422We were 2 for 3 the morning of April 26 out in SoDak. I normally shoot Magnus Bullheads and had a couple of nice Toms get by me at first light. I decided to switch to a Rage. About a half hour later, this guy came struttin into my Stuffer decoy and put on a show for a few minutes before I ran the Rage through him at 10 yds. The valley I was overlooking was full of turkeys so I did and end around and pushed them towards 2 buddies. When I came over the hill, I don’t know who was more excited….me or the turkeys. They were running and flying everywhere. One made the mistake and flew completely across the creek bottom and landed on the opposite hillside. He didn’t stay there long as he started making his way up the hill. Little did he know my buddie was waiting for him behind a giant oak tree at the top. When the bird got to about 12 yards, my friend stepped out at full draw and ran a NAP Gobbler Getter right up to the fletching just above the beard. We didn’t weigh it, but it was noticeably bigger than mine. I filmed a friend the next morning as he rushed a shot at 8 yards with the Bullhead and missed. I haven’t seen the film yet, but heard it is great footage.
May 15, 2013 at 3:32 pm #130434shot my best tom ever monday.
weighed 25.5 and had 1.75 spurs and 11.25 beard
a classic off the roost hunt where i was set up close and all it took was a couple soft yelps on a diaphragm after flydown to bring him right in.
