youth hunt suggestions

Heres my situation. I will be taking my daughter on the wi youth hunt, I also have a buddy and his son coming along to introduce them to turkey hunting. To try to allow shot opportunities for both kids I’m looking for suggestions on the setup. I’ve hunted three in a blind before but think 4 will be crowded when trying to arrange for a shot, so I’m thinking 2 blinds with me and kids in one so I can communicate with them when getting ready to shoot and my buddy videoing in the other by himself. If anyone has used 2 blinds before have you set them up next to each other or spread apart. Could always try no blinds I guess but blinds make things so much easier with kids.

In my opinion, you HAVE to use a blind with young kids. I know how restless I get.

I would go the two blinds route. Draw for who gets to shoot first. They all your focus will be on that child while the other gets to watch, personally I’d suggest from the camera blind. This gives you 100% focus on shooter #1. The other Dad’s job will be to film, although that is pretty secondary compared to getting a shot for the kid.

Just my suggestion. Lots of ways to tackle this.

    Good luck!!

Agreed. Blinds are the way to go, and a two-blind setup would still allow you to enjoy the hunts together while giving you the space needed.

I also think the one-at-a-time rule is a good one here like Kooty stated. I’ve been on the greedy end as an adult, trying to tag two birds at once, only to have issues with the second-shooter, coordination, etc. Ultimately, there’s a lot that can go wrong. Focus on a quality hunt, one kid at a time.

Also, I wouldn’t try to have the child shooter coordinate with the camera-man. Make the child’s sole focus on lining up those sights and squeezing that trigger just perfectly. I still get rattled when I’ve got a camera-guy in my ear, or I’m trying to ask “On him?”

Good luck, and thanks for doing what you’re doing. Turkey hunting is one of the better ways IMO to introduce kids into the outdoors!
