I’ve been keeping an eye on a number of groups of birds working in and out of corn, near beans, and generally just covering ground after fly-down and just before fly-up. Most of them are in pretty large groups, segregated by sex, and downright in a funk! Perhaps it’s the lack of standing crops, less leaves for cover, etc., but most of these birds are scooting as soon as you see them, esp. on foot. Perhaps a fall bird from a tree won’t be as easy as we thought?

I’ve been doing everything but hunting the past few weeks, but will hopefully get a crack in the next week or two!

The funny part, I’ve been thinking about spring birds a lot the last few days.

Joel, don’t you know they are educated on guns and bows? Carry a fence post driver and they’ll be 10 yards away My last trip up to my farm was all work. I had a small oak go down on the fence line. I had a post driver in my hand when 4 toms and a few jakes strolled by at about 15 yrds away I passed one group of about 14 hens. I’m seeing a good number of young birds, so I think mother Nature is taking care of them despite the last two consecutive hard winters we had here.
