Well After Starting a new job at Federal Ammunition things have been very busy but when I found out that I would be changing shifts and have 9 days off I thought how can I not try to go to SD chasing some thunder chickens so I made a phone call to a buddy and ask if he would be game and without a second thought he said yes so the wheels were in motion for the first turkey hunt in SD for us ever so after a long 12 hour day of work on Wed we hoped in the car and were on the way with tags in hand we got there at 7 in the morning and glassed a few birds but not like we expected to see I have been out there deer hunting and saw a ton of birds and they were nowhere to be found but we hunted hard and that night I was able to glass a group of birds and cut them off and hammered a jake at 20 yards in the wide open with no cover except a little sage bush that night at the motel a local told us that last summer the game and fish had trapped 300 turkeys off the farm we were hunting so the search was on to find a new place to hunt the next day was a washout but we went and got a plat book and made a few calls and got permission to hunt 2 new places so that night we went out and rousted some birds the next morning we got to the place and located them just to make sure where they were exactly and got set up about an hour later they flew down right to us and by buddy Al smoked a nice bird at 5 yards with the bow that night we rousted a few more birds on another place and the next morning they didn’t quite work out so we drove to a new piece of land and on the way in we bumped a group of birds but luckily we were able to call them back and Al was able to make a great 50 yard shot with his bow and put him down after that it was getting a little late in the afternoon so we decided to go set up by a roust tree and see if I could fill my last tag with my bow we hiked in and got set up and a while later we made a couple calls and 2 gobblers hammered up the draw about 80 yards from us and they were coming hard so after some shuffling in the blind I was able to hammer him at 26 yards it was a great hunt and I will defiantly be there next spring we were both so happy to have tagged out our first time out there turkey hunting oh and I was also able to give the 70 yard pin some attention on a very unlucky prairie dog had to hold 6 inches for the wind but I put the rage 2 blade on him hard at 71 yards

Good work! Sounds like you did your leg work to find a place to hunt. I’m heading to SD on wednesay to chase turkeys myself. Congrats on your success
