Slept in yesterday due to rain but hit the woods with high expectations this morning. Our morning started slow with birds gobbling way off in the distance. I held tight hoping some birds would show up in the field we set up on. After some long range calling we noticed they where closing the distance with some gobbles after every two or threes calls. About twenty min later seen the three toms that had been gobbling and they where coming in. What happen next left me….. Well kinda speechless, out of no where 30 head of cattle came running threw the “non fenced” field we where hunting in spooking the toms out of the field. I sat and watched the cows shaking my head wondering where they could of came from. I couldn’t get a bird to gobble for about 15 min after that but they finally started up again. After a little sweet talking with the calls I got two bird to commit and come in. Alex made a great shot a little early but it did the job. He ended up with a 22lb bird with 9in beard and 3/4in spurs. I couldn’t be more proud of him and I’m thrilled to have been able to share another great hunt with him. Congrats again buddy dads way proud of you!!!!!

Congrats Alex and John, great bird Alex .John I know the proud feeling you have as my son Hunter who is 10 scored on his first time out,he has been going with me since he was 3 and the last few years has been itching to be able to shoot himself.I can’t wait for him to be 12 and he can hunt here in Saskatchewan, but for now we will be going to season’s in WI when time allows.

Many congrats John to you and your boy. What a rush, especially after the initial disappointment of the cattle messing things up. His smile is about as much of a smile as a young man can muster, and tells the tale quite well. Good work Dad!

That you all! To me my season is complete. This bird that Alex shot will be the first full body mount in my house. It’s being done in full strut, I can’t wait to see it!!!
