Went out scouting Thursday am. We saw a bunch of deer and a coyote, but the turkeys were scarce. We didn’t even hear a gobble. We setup the blind in what is typically a great spot and hoped for the best.
Saturday morning on the walk out to the blind we start to hear some gobbles. Sounds like they are close to the blind – almost too close. We hurried to get setup. By this time the turkeys were really fired up. Sounded like there were at least 3 or 4 gobblers. I gave just a couple soft calls and sat back to enjoy the show. After about a 5 minute wait we could see 3 toms making their way toward us. Another 5 minutes and all three toms were strutting only 5 yards from the blind. What a show! I can’t believe they didn’t hear our hearts pounding. Ben took careful aim and dumped the first one that turned our direction. It was a sharp contrast from last year when we hunted hard and never saw a bird. Rather be lucky than good I guess.
Congrats on your first turkey son!
