I was sitting at home tonight around 7pm when I realized that surplus tags went on sale today at 5pm for zone 501 for those of us who applied but did not get drawn. I ran out the door and headed out to Fleet Farm, there were 399 tags available for zone 501 season D. By the time I got to Fleet Farm there were 18 left and I got one! I am going turkey hunting!!!

Congrats Steve, the last couple years with the addition of the bowhunting over the counter tag I do not even worry about it anymore. It helps to have access to non pressured turkeys for those late seasons though.

    Goodluck!

The way I understand it this is how it works……

For anyone that applied and did not get drawn, on the 19th you could buy a tag for season D zone 501, 399 tags were avalable.

On the 21st anyone can buy a left over tag for the last four seasons even if you did not apply for the draw.

I was told archery only if you pick the option of hunting all of the last four seasons. You can hunt with a gun if you pick one of the last four seasons.

New this year: It is not necessary to enter into the lottery for time periods E through H. The E through H time periods will be available to anyone. The E through H time period licenses will be sold as a surplus license at ELS agent locations in mid March.

It is not necessary to enter into the lottery for permits

for time periods E- H they are available over the

    counter at ELS vendors.

If you choose the archery tag, you can hunt seasons E – H. If you choose to use a shotgun, you must choose ONE season, E – H. You are then limited to one of those 4 day seasons.

I can’t find it in the regulations where it states it’s OK to use a bow for a shotgun tag. Although common sense would lead one to think that it would be. However, it seems counter productive to buy a shotgun tag and then hunt with a bow and limit yourself to 4 days of hunting instead of having 16.

    E and F are 5 day seasons. G and H are 7 day seasons.
