I am not seeing any birds around. I drive Rochester all day checking on different jobsites and bidding. Some of the normal hot spots are void of any birds so far. Anyone else seeing the Strut in action? My uncle (where I hunt) has noticed a big decline too. The 2010/11 winter is really showing the effects I think.

I am seeing tons of birds everyday around but the bigger flocks of them are starting to break up and spread back out again it seems. I do have one property that normally has birds but is completely MT right now, plenty of coyotes tracks though.

With the DNR ( DO NOTHING RIGHT ) new management tools for turkey hunting I think it is only going to go down hill from Here the next several years – Then they will go back to Micro Managing them again in a few years.

Were you down for Joels seminar? There are a few hanging around dads!
If it was only 50, it must have been the group of tom’s or about half the hens and yearlings!

Sounds like I’m gonna have to find a new spot. You guys are seeing way more than I am. Thanks for the info

I hunt (nearly everything) in the Winona area, and I am seeing plenty of birds, tracks, and droppings. The last 5 years or so, since we put in food/ponds/cover, the birds and deer have been wintering on our properties. I am hoping to “frost seed” some of my plots with clover, to have some green in time for Turkey season (OTC Archery in early May).

Not sure we are going to have anymore “frost”! I thought I did mine maybe a bit to early, late Feb. early March, glad I did.

This year, is the most birds I have ever seen in the area i hunt. with in a 4 mile radius of my hunting grounds I saw over 200 birds.

Just remember the big toms are still out there just not being seen.
