since I was not picked in the lottery, and there does not appear to be any surplus license available in my area (507) That means that my only option is to wait until March 21 at noon and then I can buy one for time period E-H. Is that correct? Is there any limit of how many license that can be bought for those time periods? This new Process does not seem to me a good way of manageing the population. With the new areas being so large what is to stop lots of turkeys from being harvested in some small area’s while other ares don’t get hunted at all. I think the way they were manageing smaller areas prior was a better system.

No limit on the over the counter tags.

I agree with the rest of your post 100%. We’ll see how it turns out but I have a time frame written in my hunting log with my prediction on when the local birds will be wiped out. Pure laziness on the DNR’s part.

I think many of us feel the same way. I didn’t realize this when the new rules first came out last year. Now I’m really hoping they know more than my gut feeling is telling me.

I can only speak to my thoughts. Some areas have strong localized populations. Those areas could get pounded pretty hard for the last 4 seasons. While the rest of these large units are basically left untouched due to lack of population.

It’s also those areas that could skew survey results very negatively for these large units. Take unit 503 for example, the birds on the northern border of that unit are much more heavily populated vs the southern end of that unit.

It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out and how it will affect the flock statewide. I hope the management is based on sound biology vs. $/politics…
