Crap. They’re back. Might spook them to get out of here. Gobbling like mad.

New spot – darn quiet. The jakes we left never stopped gobbling.

Goodluck, Sierra ended up shooting some wing feathers off one last night to end our season. She was determined to stick it out until the end and is excited to try again this fall!

Distant gobbles followed by zero response to the mouth call. Hit the box call and two come running, one walked away.

Here were the pair from yesterday that wouldn’t leave us alone. Of course, I could’ve laid off on the calling, but even then, a full 45 minutes after I’d sounded my last yelp, they continued to circle us. End-count was 3 and a half times around the blind. Taken with a cell phone at 20 yards. Sorry, none of the high-end equipment with on this hunt!

To answer your question Randy, we’ve been seeing a fair amount of hens with some of the gobblers, but elect to play-ball elsewhere, at-times avoiding choice tracts just because the birds there are locked-down. There are quite a few hens in the full-throes of nesting as you mention too. This doesn’t make the gobblers any easier to find, but it does make them quite a bit more responsive when we do contact them.

Here’s the end result of yesterday’s hunt.

Had 3 gobblers and 1 jake @ 25yds this morning. No shot! Camera angle awesome… Shooter angle was horrible. I learned I can say SHOOT all I want but if the guy with the gun can’t see them…It’s no use. Hittin’ it again this afternoon.

No gobbling on the roost this am. Only heard 2 other birds around 8:00 am besides the ones we had a chance at.

Pretty quiet, couldn’t get the boy awake enough to come along. Hope he’s not too disappointed. It sure is loud inside the blind when its raining. Better than wet I guess

WINDY! Nothing sounding off here. Might be a long morning. My shooter is already out cold laying in the bottom of the blind.

I’m in the same boat. Listening to a pheasant trying to hear anything. Cold and rain. Never hunted turkey in stocking hat and gloves. Hopefully the weather improves.

Took off some feathers at 32 yards. It was too low and he flew off with a small bare spot. Recovered my arrow. He’s gonna be fine. Hopefully there are more in the area

We bagged the morning. Lots of talk on the roost from the rruck but when we got to the woods they shut off. Then the sleet came.

It was a pretty uneventful first ever hunt for me this morning. Got a few responses to the mouth call shortly after fly down…then absolutely nothing. Still nice to know there are some birds around though. Going mobile this afternoon & hoping for a little more action. Good luck to everyone who’s out there this weekend!

Well it is the first day of turkey season. I have never hunted turkey before. Now mind you, I am hunting with Bob. He is putting out the decoys and tells me this protocol to get the turkeys to come to me. I don’t really believe him-do u?????

Pop tarts & coffee are always good in the morning, but even better in a ground blind. It’s my 12 year anniversary today too. Hopefully I can bring home some feathers instead of flowers.

Ok-I didn’t think turkey’s were this hard to kill but I have put on ALOT of miles today in search of a bird! They are alot more work than deer hunting. Couldn’t even get to the blind because the blind was surrounded by turkeys!

Boy this is really frustrating! I am sitting here in the blind all by myself and I just am surrounded by turkeys gobbling all over the farm! I just can’t get them to come to me!!!
