I know you asked about a propane smoker, but if you are not opposed to a charcoal smoker, take a look at the Weber Smokey Mountain Smoker. It is an absolutely fabulous smoker. I use mine with hardwood lump charcoal and find it to control temperatures very well. I have slow cooked pork shoulders at 225 and cooked turkeys at 350. Amazon is probably the best place to purchase. You can look it up and read some of the reviews.

SO pretty much I ignored what you said you want…

On my short list of things to buy, I have this Link

    and maybe this one Link

The cookshack from what I read seems to be the better choice for me, people say they can use them through winter and they work great still because the are well insulated, but you can get as much heat as you can with the Bradley, not sure if that important or not, the cookshack also lets you use your own wood, and apparently uses very little of it. Overall the cookshack seems to do a great efficient job…. No real idea until I pick one up.

My buddy out in Oregon has a cookshack. He smokes about 50+ salmon and steelhead a year, along with piles of elk and deer, and his ribs are FANTASTIC. Those smokers are the cats . They do a great job on fish. His smoked salmon is better than any you could ever buy in a store.

Menards has them on sale right now! $168 for a charcoal with side smoker! I am buying one.
They have electric cylinder smokers for a few bucks more…but I like the full sized ones.

I dont know about propane , but about 3 months ago i bought a electic master built at sams for 280.00 you just set the temp that you want and the time add wood chips to the bottom load tray about every hour or so and thats it, It even comes with a book that tells you how long to cook a bunch of different stuff. I use it every weekend and love it! you can also order it from cabelas about the same price. it can be set from 100 degrees up to 280

Thanks for the input – I’m thinking propane might be based on input from a manager at Gander who has trouble getting enough heat out of an electric double walled unit when it gets below freezing….With propane, not an issue. Indirect charcoal would be a good option as well. Another mystery of life…….

John, the deadline for apps submission was 12/10 for the 2012 Spring hunt. If you already applied, or are able to get an over the counter tag for Zone 1, drop me a pm. Our area locally to my farm was hit pretty bad a couple years in a row with thick ice cover on the landscape over winter. Resulted in heavy winter. We still have a fare number of good toms working a reasonable range.
I’m down about 50% on commitments for guiding (pending draw results), so I’ld have a few spots put you on.
