hunted a few hours each day in six of the nine days of fall firearm turkey season and it was one of the toughest years in recent memory.
my go-to spots that always held flocks of fall toms in past years were a big zero for some reason.
covered a lot of ground and saw and talked with a lot of birds, but they were mostly hens, jennies and jakes. did come across a few toms but they were either too far away or had no interest in calls.
finally spotted a flock of jakes in a picked bean field. worked them with calls for about an hour before pulling them close enough.
still lots of fun, but i dont think this guy’s one inch beard will qualify for the beard board.

Don’t forget you get to have him for Thanksgiving! That’s as good a prize as any. Good to see some folks getting out and after them. Plus, you got to talk to them, which is half the fun anyway. Congrats!
