I’m sitting in the blind and a Tom is locked up 200-250 yards out. I have a lone decoy out but he’s not getting any closer. What should I do? Call? Not call? Or call a little like I have been?

No wonder. There are 2 hens with him. Guess I’ll just sit back and enjoy the show

    still there?
i’d ramp up my calling louder and see if that piques their interest. then maybe hit some louder cutts.
if the tom doesnt get interested you might p off the hens and get them to come over for a look, especially if they see the decoy.
if not, i would cut back in the woods and circle to get closer to the side of the field they are heading toward.
good luck and report back if ya can!

Now there are 3 Toms and no hens. I had a nice one closing the distance (50) yards then the other 2 stepped onto the field and he took off running. Dang it

dang it is right. a few more steps and you could have had him.
hey, at least you are getting action.
keep workin em. i’d still call soft – definitely use some purrs and clucks in addition to yelps – and if they dont appear interested, call gradually louder and work in some cutts.
i’d switch up calls to try and get them interested, too.
well … off to get the boat ready for the river tomorrow. hope to see some good news when i check back.

No action for the last hour and the rain moved in. Looks like the turkey gods won again.

No doubt, very cool that you’re seeing birds. As John mentioned the play by play adds an interesting twist. Maybe a turkey hunting webcast for 2012?
