Hunter Walker, Son Of Ray and Debbie Walker from Cannon Falls shot his 1st turkey this year. The story as told by Hunter and his dad,
“My son started his turkey season on April 15th. It was was a cold rainy/snowy night.
We set up the blind just off a trail up in the woods. We didn’t see or hear anything. He
couldn’t wait to get out and hunt Saturday morning. We got out to the blind at about 5 am.
It had snowed all that night about 2 inches so our blind was caved in a bit. We finally got
settled in but didn’t see or hear any turkeys all morning. We decided to go home for lunch
and warm up a little. We went out again around 2 pm and decided to walk the hillside
but we never even saw a track. We decided to move our blind to a spot that was closer to
the field. We got all settled in. It was about 7:45 pm when we saw and heard 3 – 4 turkeys.
they landed in the trees directly above our blind. We stayed until it was completely dark
that night so they wouldn’t spot us leaving. On the last day of my sons hunt we once
again were out in the blind by 5 am. When we got there that morning we could see that
the turkeys were still up in the tree. It was about 6 am and the turkeys started gobbling. They
flew down to the ground just in front of the blind. We both gave a couple of calls and sure
enough there came Hunter’s turkey. All it took was one shot. It was so exciting to see the
look on my son’s face when he dropped the 20lb with a 9 1/2″ beard. It was an excellent
hunt for a 14 year old to experience”
Congrats to Hunter and Hunters Dad On a great Bird
