This post is a couple of weeks old as I was havign trouble getting logged into the site. Thanks Kooty for the help.
Fish509 and I meet up with a buddy who is the manager of Scheels in Sioux City, Iowa for our annual Nebraska turkey hunt in the hills of Homer.
This was a family trip for me as my in laws live in Dakota Dunes, South Dakota so I say to the wife it would be nice for the kids to see grandma and and grandpa for easter. She says sure and we pack the 3 and 1 year old in the mini van and then I start loading my hunting stuff and she says she knew you had a hidden agenda.
Fish509 was able to leave early on Thursday and while I was at work was sending me text photos of birds around the blind. So needless to say I was not happy that I was at work and he was already there looking at birds.
So we arrive at the laws at 11:00 pm and buy the time I ket the kids back in bed and the vehicle unloaded it was after midnight knowing that I was getting up at 0400 because we had about 30 minute drive with a 20 minute walk to get up the large large large hill to where we wanted to set up.
I am pretty sure that I didnt sleep two hours and was up before the alarm went off. Well they picked me up and off to Homer we went. About ten minutes before we get there it starts to rain with some wind. We all took out the rain gear and headed up the hill. We got set up in a corner of pasture/crp and hay field. We stick out two hens and then get nesseled in to the fallen tress in the fence line.
Just when I was gonna get a litte snooze in the gobbling started and it was the loudest that I had ever heard. We had birds gobbling in every direction. At about 0705 it all stopped and we then started to see some coming out into the field about 250 yards away. A few calls later then we had four jakes that came in and sat out front of us for 20 minutes gobbling.
After they left we had seen no more than 20-30 birds crossing but they would not leave all the hens. The fog started to settle in and then it happended. All of a sudden two gobblers responded to the calls and came running in on a string from 200 yards just like they are supposed to.
Well the rest is history. Both birds were shot inside 20 yards and were almost identical twins. Both birds had 10.5″ beards, 1 1/4″ spurs and weighed 23lbs.
I forgot to throw a plug in to the land owners who let us hunt. Brian and Becky McFarland have started their own outdoor line of clothing called Shiver Shield. Over the past three or four years we have got a first hand chance to see how things have went from the devolopment stage to the final production stage.
The clothing is simply unblievable. They have a website up and running and are getting ready for their clothing line to hit the big box stores.
I am pretty positive that its just a matter of marketing and time before most of us will be wearing their garmets.

Congrats on a couple of great Birds and welcome to IDO
X2 Awesome simply Awesome!
Great stuff Jason!! Thanks for sharing the hunt with us. I think our wives pretend to act like they don’t know we always have an ulterior motive.
