I was told I would have to wait. It’s too nice out to be on the computer.

April 29, 2011 at 8:31 pm #105697My Hunt started off in Buffalo County, Wisconsin 4/28/11. I was up at 4:!5a.m. with little rest. I kept on thinking about what I need to pack for the mornings hunt. I arrived to the hunting property at 4:50a.m. then loaded up all the gear (Decoys, Chair and Blind) on my back, along with the Bow in hand. I thought, where’s Kooty when I need him! After a 3/4 mile walk, I decided on where to set up. Next, Decoys were placed out, 1 beded hen along with a full strut tom to the left, 2 feeder hens and a jake to the right. All were set up within 15 yards of the blind. I sat patiently waiting for daylight to break. Well, it start snowing, then sleet and rain. There were 5 or 6 toms gobbling to my right up towards the cabin on the hill. As I sat there, I could hear birds leaving the roost. They were landing at the field bottom in front of me 200 yards out. Many of those turkeys were hens, along with a couple of jake’s. It was around 7:30a.m when I counted 18 birds in the field, 2 nice toms to boot. As I was watching the birds out in front of me, 2 jakes made their way into the decoys. They milled around for 10 minutes checking out what was going on over here. With the wind and snow pelting the blind, I thought I heard a gobble to the east. So I decided to pull out the Quaker Boy Box Call, I did 5 yelps on it, then 2 gobbles confirmed what I heard. I waited 5 minutes, then hit the call again, 2 gobbles. They sounded like they were on the ridge top making there way to me. I set the box call down, looked at the birds out in field in front of me, and to the right. 2 minutes later, I heard something coming to my left. I slowly looked out the blind (where a put a beded hen and full strut tom), there they were, 2 toms 12 yards away. How the heck did they get there that fast! I slowly swayed to my left, graped the bow, pulled it back, leaned back to the right – now the birds saw something they didn’t like. Too much movement or something. The 2 toms started walking away, I put the 20 yard pin on 1 of them, and wack. I hit him low and he flew off to the woods. I waited 1 hour for the field to clear, then went after him. I got out of the blind, looked up to where he flew in. I could hear him puting, then he decided to get up and fly over a pond behind the blind. I was able to located him, again. He was limping making his way uphill in the woods. I ended up running up a deer trail above him to cut him off. The son of a gun disappeared. I looked for 30 minutes, but no turkey!
Friday, I was set up in a similar area. I heard a couple gobbles, but didn’t see a bird. I hunted till 8:00a.m., then headed home for work. I had a great hunt and learned a ton on what these Turkeys can do and will do. My season isn’t over yet, I’ll be out there again. Here are a couple of pic’s from Friday morning’s hunt….
April 29, 2011 at 8:43 pm #105689Kirk Peterson from Peterson Taxidermy finished up my 2010 Mn Turkey. I had a full body mount done. I will be posting some pic’s tomorrow. I gotta find a spot on the wall to hang em up!
April 30, 2011 at 3:32 am #105713My season started on Thur & it has been tuff so far. I have only been able to hunt the evenings so far because of work. Only saw one bird on Thursday a hen, and nothing today. I have Sunday and Monday off from work the last two days of my season so hopefully my luck will change for the better.
