The more I use them, the more I fall in love with them. What do you guys use? Do you use it often, have it around as a turkey hunting paperweight, or somewhere in between? Interested in hearing who uses them and how frequently.

I’m a big fan of several box calls, and own a handful myself. Only one or two are in the vest with me when I hunt typically, and that’s the Quaker Boy Hurricane Supreme and the Primos Lil’ Heartbreaker. I’m a fan of the higher pitched, loudy and raspy style calls. It’s amazing, even when close to a tom how excited you can get a tom that’s “right” with a box. I’m decent with a mouth call, but there’s something about the rasp, loudness, and frequency of a box call that drives ’em wild!

    What do you use?

I have one box call not sure who it is made by but I only use it for long range calling. Most the time I’m using a slate & mouth calls I bring with 4 slates and a pile of strikers every time I go out along with pockets full of mouth calls.

I guess I don’t use them that much cause I feel like I want to call loud with them all the time.

The last few years I have relied more and more on the box call. Both as a locator call and have also coaxed in those weary toms in with some very soft calls using the box call.

Yep, box calls are the way to go when those birds are some distance away or just plain quiet. The raspy piercing calls really cuts through the wind and can bring in a bird from a long ways away. The last two birds I’ve shot both came in running after a couple short series of box calling. I have at all times in the vest the quaker boy hurricane as well. I usually start with diaphragms mixed in with several different slates coupled with the occasional gobble call.

I have one but I never hardly use it. Maybe I should practice on it a little more!

i use box calls some, probably not enough cause they make fantastic, realistic turkey talk.

i use them when cuttin and runnin to spark a gobble, especially on windy days, then tone down with glass or diaphragm once he starts headin my way.

my 2 favorites are a woodhaven walnut real hen and a primos heartbreaker. i have called in birds with my mad mini master and hs strut the natural field champion, too.

i have shot several fall toms using the field champion, which makes excellent gobbler yelps and clucks.
