Had my daughter Danielle out this morning to see if I could get her “The Five Minute Hunt”. Each year since she’s been hunting I have busted her tail getting her on birds. This year she said she wanted a five minute hunt like her boyfriend has had the last couple seasons with me. Called Mike last night to see if he wanted to video tape the hunt, I had roosted 3 long beards so I knew right where they’d be this morning. Sure enough, had gobbles right away. Did a few tree yelps and heard them leave the roost. Now it was just a matter of time before they hit the field we were in. About a half hour goes by and had a bearded hen almost climb right in to my lap. Danielle and Mike were in the blind and I was about 15 yards behind them calling. Set up worked perfect. Had 3 Toms, 2 Jakes and about 6 hens hit the field. Quite the show this morning. As the Toms got closer to us, I kept thinking to myself…Why isn’t she shooting?” They gobbled and strutted for about 15 – 20 minutes and walked off. Again, no shot! I gave her the range finder and knew she was good out to 35 – 40 yards and could have sworn they were within that range. At about 7:15 or so we had to pull the plug as she had to get to school and Mike and I to work. They emerged from the blind with smiles on their faces and asked me…”I thought you loaded my gun?” The good thing is that the birds never broke strut when they were at 30 yards and she wasn’t about to take the shot because she had 2 side-by-side the entire time. It was an awesome show, and Mike should have got some great video. Dannir and I headed back out at noon today to see if she can put the hammer down on one of those Toms.
It was a great show and enjoyed the company with Danielle. When we first saw the gobblers across the field I thought she was going to shake right out of her chair. Danielle has been hunting now for several years and it’s refreshing to see her still get excited over them.
Now I’ve never heard of anyone “forgetting” to load there gun before. What was she thinking?
Apparently not loading the gun runs in the Pearson genes….
I can’t wait to read about her success.

That’s what it’s all about sounds like you guys had a good time hope she gets to hammer one yet.
They both just headed out to put the on one of them long beards from this morning. I’m actually hoping she doesn’t fill up…I want to go with on Saturday morning to film again! I know…I’m selfish that way but I can’t get enough of this stuff!
Hope they have a good time out there can’t wait to hear how it went.
Saw a couple out in the fields at lunchtime – hope they caught up to some.
Dannir will post the results of the afternoon hunt. What an awesome day. Glad I could be there with you again Dannir! I love those times with you.
Love ya kiddo!
