I usually use 3 1/2 inch 12 guage 5’s… (sometimes lead, sometimes Hevi-shot) What are your preferences?

Do you spend the extra $$ and use Hevi shot (or equivalent)I tested alot of different loads in my turkey gun some shoot patterns right some left. Find a load that shoots good and buy a bunch of them. Only takes 1 shot per year!

    Anyone use this product?

HEVI-Shot® HEVI-13 Magnum Blend Turkey Loads

i voted #6 and ive used the hevi-13 in 3.5″ with good success.

I smoked the bird i shot. the hevi-13 patterned better at 30 yds than the winchester supremes i compared them too. I shoot a winchester sx2 capped with the stock full invector-plus choke.

last year I’ve promised myself that i will poke the next one with stick and string. but if I went back to my shotty, i wouldn’t hesitate to load up the hevi.

The way i look at it, you only should need one shot for turkeys, so why not make it as good and powerful of a shot as you can. and because of that, I’m ok paying a premium for a better load…

ducks, geese and pheasants are a different story… i need to pull the trigger a little more out there!

We use Federal HW 7’s. Same downrange power of a #5 lead but with the added pellet counts.

The mag. blend performed as well or better last year than Win. xtended #6’s in my gun….3.5″ 12gauge for both

I’ve always been a big fan of blended shot sizes, and if you look at the true customizers of the sport that shoot still target championships, most shoot handloads or Nitro’s in 5, 6, and/or 7. Hevi-types all the way for this guy. They flat out perform better, and with turkey hunting, even if you hunt many states and are gone all spring, you’ll probably shoot less than a box of shells. Never skimp on shells…..like fishing line, it’s the direct link between you and your quarry.

    Hey Joel –

Thanks for the input about the Hevi Mag Blend… I picked up two boxes this year (which at that price, I’m hoping will last me a few seasons…) with high expectations.

Glad to see they preformed well for you. Can’t wait to put the hammer down this year.

Youth hunt this weekend, hope to get off on the right foot!
