And cold weather kind of a put me in a bad mood. I was just starting to see “my” turkeys on a daily basis in their regular haunts. Oh, I know they will still be there, but looking out across the white landscape isn’t helping my attitude.

Now that I got that off my chest, time to practice my calling some more.

Just a minor set back. Keep practicing Kooty

The time will come. I have shot turkeys in the snow before and will probably do it again

My kids have the youth season in a couple of weeks….does it pay to go this weekend with all this new snow and scout for them? Will their patterns change by then? I’m ready for spring! Lord knows I’m ready for spring!

I refreshed my mineral sites the day the snow was melted, there has to be a solid 10 inches on them now the river looks like 1 solid ice dam, back to work for me today after the longest 3 days off ever!! Come on June!!

I did the same thing QDM…I’m hoping they found the mineral before the snow hit! I’ll have to go out this weekend and check it to see if they found it. Got 2 cameras on it now!

I’m starting mine for the 2011 season next weekend. Hopefully the temps warm before then.

Worked some birds on Sunday and there was plenty of snow where they were roosted. While it might dampen our spirits, it didn’t dampen theirs!

    Joel,
I am back up for the “A” season. I hope it warms up a bit. In the North Metro area I have not seen alot of birds out and about- yet.
Where you joined me there was a standing corn field with lots of corn still in it. There was not much for turkey sign around the area yet on Saturday. I did see several sets of tracks in the snow- just not numbers.
Here is the million dollar question- When more birds disperse and they locate this standing corn will it hold them in the area? I am looking for your thoughts on this

Have a great turkey season – Be Safe

Great to hear it Steve! I’ll be hunting with some friends during “A” season as well, and I was a bit concerned as well a week or so ago. That said, I think good habitat is plain good habitat. What birds are nearby will disperse to find available hens, which should be there or nearby in the first place. It’s rarely ever completely the same from year to year, but that area we hunted was a magnet. Better yet there was a neckdown to a swamp which kept them up near the field. Some spots are plain “kill-spots” and I think you’ve got one!

Looking forward to hearing how you guys do. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to head out there some morning and just listen for gobbling on the roost provided it’s a warm, sunny one.

    Good luck!!!

That is my plan for at least Sat and Sunday. I also have to check the other side of the area- Its a real long walk in with the road access closed off.
I have permision for property West of that area as well. I will try and spend a couple of evenings before the hunt in the general area as well. There were lots of sandhill crane tracks in the area as well- They look just like turkey tracks
I am fired up just hope the toms are as well

    Good Luck

    Steve
