My turkey season has been a little rough this year. My first season was wet, cold and windy. Had a couple of close calls but no real chances. Passed up several jakes and bearded hens. Finally the last night of my first season I said anything with a beard will be game. Of course nothing showed up. So when my second season came along (the last season in WI) I said if I want to try out my new gun I can’t be picky especially since I could always buy another tag. So Wed morning I went and sat and only seen one hen. Took a quick 15 min break about 8:40 then went back down to the blind. The gobbling that morning stopped about 10. They seemed to be singing to their own tune and wasn’t really answering the calls. Finally 1:30 a hen comes out and sticks around about 10 min, she leaves then the 4″ bearded hen comes out. She was not there 5 min when I hear the sound of flying over the creek right next to me. I kept saying “please be Toms” but of course it was 3 Jakes. I looked for the biggest one, they were after the hen and moving about quickly. I zoned in on the biggest. Wow when I hit the trigger he crumpled on the spot. After a few kicks and flopping around I went to check him out. Wasn’t that big but he was my first turkey with my new gun. I quickly called Pat (Gutone4me) to let him know that I got one since he had to work that day. I did buy another tag but no other opportunities came about. Till next year he will have to do.
