Took a fiend of mine, Jay, turkey hunting this past weekend. We were unable to seal the deal (only because someone didn’t have a turkey choke on his 12 gauge ) but did manage to find this nest on Sunday. We went to set up on a tom that was sounding off on a different ridge. We took this deer trail down the ridge to set up. Well after an hour of no luck we headed back up the ridge where we must have finally startled this hen. She must have let us walk right by the first time….at 7 yards! Must be because we are super stealthy! Anyway, thought that was pretty cool…20 eggs in the nest!

Also, last picture is Jay after our trek back up the ridge to the Covert!

It’s no wonder the population is doing so well. I wonder what the success rate is for mature adults out of that 20.

I hope she comes back, that happened to me last year, she jumped and I think I pooped my pants a little but she was about 3 yds when I was sneaking up a logging road to a gobbler hammering on the ridge, that wouldn’t come down to my calls. I took a different way from then on to the top of the ridge but could still check the nest with the big eyes from about 70 yds but she never came back to the nest I felt bad

Took a couple of quick pics and left. Could hear her in the valley clucking so we left quickly. I too hope she returns…not sure why she wouldn’t.

Didn’t you guys say you both ate a 10 egg omelet after your hunt.

    I bet it was good.

Seriously, Pretty neat find. I have never found eggs in the woods from a turkey but I am sure they are delicious! haha ok jk
