Now that a lot of you have got your birds killed. What are you doing with them? Picking? Skinning? Then what, freeze? I’ve heard soaking mentioned. How long and in what?

    Thanks all!

We are done messing around with picking and plucking. All we do is fillet the breast out cut them into strips and either grill them or put them in a stir fry. I have also ground them in to hamburger and made turkey jerky out of them.

I’m leaning towards turkey breast wrapped in bacon. One of my favorites. Wait, I gotta kill one first.

That’s always been one of my go to recipes. Read a recipe with a little bit of a twist to this one. Tried it Sunday and it is now one of my new favorites. I posted it in the recipe section but here is the short version. Cut into strips, marinate overnight in 1/2 Italian Dressing and 1/2 Maple Syrup. I put them on bamboo skewers than wrapped in bacon and grilled till bacon is done. The maple just gives it that little bit extra…

I’m gonna save a couple birds for the grill, I think I’m gonna have one smoked and make some jerky also. Still have 2 more tags left, need more options.

    Man I love turkey season!

    Good luck on your hunt!

Thanks Dennis for the recipe. We had this last night and we now have our new favorite recipe for grilled wild turkey. Everyone raved about it!

The last couple years, I’ve just breasted my gobblers out. Then I would cut it up into meal size portions. Next, I put the meal size portions through a food saver. Whenever I’m hungry for turkey, I take it out of the freezer and cut it up into nuggets. I then season it usually with some cajun seasoning or any of your favorite seasoning, and deep fry. Haven’t had turkey a better way!

Kooty, I have taken a couple to the local meat locker in Rogers and have them smoked. After you shoot one all you have to do is field dress it and drop it off, they do the rest. It only cost $20 and it was superb! I shot one in Nebraska a couple weekends ago bowhunting and had it smoked, hopefully I’ll tip another over in bow season for minnesota and deep-fry that one. Good luck hunting!

Breasted it out, cut into strips, marinated one side in tariaki the other in buffalo sauce, grilled, then ate! I thought they were very good and my 7 year daughter liked it as well so thats always a plus.

That is what we did with the last ones, Very good.

I have also used them the same way as the duck poppers, slice the breast to bite size pieces, soak in 100% pure (citric acid)lemonade (orange for ducks) & seasonings for at least 12hrs (more is better) then wrap with a third strip of bacon a sliver of onion and Jap. pepper, pin with a toothpick and gril till bacon is done.

My tummy is growling right now just thinking about it

By the way the only way to tenderize the legs enough to eat is to lay them in the curb and gutter and drive over them with the truck at least 15 times.

Thanks for the advice because I was only driving them over 14 times.
