Got out yesterday morning, lot’s of gobbles and birds but nothing that wanted to commit. Heard alot of gobbling just over a little rise from me but couldn’t see them. At noon yesreday I folded up the Covert blind and moved over the rise on a little point which seperated a hay field and a plowed corn field, Looked good. Got to the blind at 5:15 this morning with the feeling it was going to be good. It was a little windy but I was somewhat protected where I was set up.Birds starting sounding off at that magical time down at the bottom of the hill from me, ( us ) my brother was with for that other set of eyes. After the birds flew down they were getting further and further away from us . The birds quit gobbling and didn’t here anything for quite a while. Then to my right two hens pop out of the woods and came right up to the blind, now it was a stare down, i guess we won cause they relaxed and starting dusting not ten yards from us. Then three more hens come out from the same spot, about the time they hit the hay field a thundering gobble let go RIGHT behind the blind that almost knocked the two of us off our stool’s. Still haven’t checked my pant’s yet .I look at my brother like holy #@%&@. and then he say’s there he is. I turn to my right again and I swear his fan was almost touching the blind. He seen the b- mobile decorated with real feathers and he was off to kick some tail. When he got out away from me far enough I let the ole 12 bark and he was in a heap of hurt, after about a miute he was motionless. I looked at my bro and we were both grinning ear to ear. We got out and walked up to the trophy, 10″ beard, inch and a quarter spur on one side, inc and a half on the other leg, .23 and a half pounds. My second best bird, another limbhanger, got one in 2004 with inch and a half spurs on both sides with 11 inch beard and 25 lbs.I am pumped. The pics don’t do the bird justice but he is a good one. Darn, having trouble getting the pics to post. Will keep trying.
What a morning
