Thanks Joel and I too truly enjoyed spending time with you during your hunt. There’s not many hunters out there who spend the amount of time scouting for birds as you do. Heck, Joel even knows the exact trees these birds roost at. It’s pretty cool walking around the area he hunts in and listen to all the stories where he has killed turkeys or times where he called them in for other hunters. He knows their pattens so well. To give an example, I spotted a tom heading down towards the river. Joel knew the exact route that bird would take and we set up about 3/4 mile away. The tom had to cross the river, then make his way through the woods about 200 yards, then cross a busy County Road, then a 30 acre open hay field to get to our set up! Well the tom did just that! I firmly believed we would have killed that bird if it wasn’t for a car driving by that spooked him a bit off his desired course. If I had to define one word for Joel as it relates to turkey hunting, I would definitely say dedication! He devotes so much time and energy towards turkey hunting not only during his season, but year round as well! Good things happen to those that work hard for it!

    Congrats again buddy!

Great job Joel and cool thread! I figured you must have been on some good birds since you hadn’t popped into my neck of the woods this spring. Griffin told me about your turkey taking a bath this afternoon so I knew it must have been a good day!

Think I can borrow a turkey decoy for my “E” season? I will talk to you soon.

    Great job!!

You can have ’em all. Cost us at least one bird with a bow from my estimation. Full strut deke was murder on a hard gobbling two year old, while the toms seemed absolutely indifferent towards them at best.

This was a very fun read as threads go! Thanks for the play-by play Dick and Bert or Gordon & Gladden couldn’t do any better! It was like being there > did anyone else feel like they pulled the trigger

Nice! Joel does know about them big chickens.

James, told you its hard to keep that dude awake in the blind. I liked the finish to my hunt with Nelson. “Guide” goes to sleep in the blind, snores away then wakes up to make two calls and I shoot a bird…then we go home so he can have a nap.

Joel’s got the look of the turkey in his eyes in that photo! You know he’s determined when the gun comes out and enough is enough..

Love the play-by-play, and the photo of Nelson sleeping is classic.

Way to go. Hope to see some video before my hunt in a couple weeks.

I don’t have any photos of Nelson. I never have my camera along when I see him, and I think that’s a good thing…I’d be in trouble. He’s quite the singer!
