I took my son Adam out for the Youth Hunt and came up a bit short. Opening morning we were greeted with distant gobbles…which were followed by three gun shots from above us! I told him that maybe the shots would push something past us…and sure enough, 30 minutes later we had a bird working our direction. He closed the distance rather quickly but was reluctant to come to the decoys…he strutted and gobbled behind us for about 15 minutes. He finally came out when the hen he was with came out as well. He charged the decoys and was on us in no time. I told Adam to take him when he was ready but he never had time to settle on him. He came in, turned and started walking away. I tried to stop him with a cluck and that just made him high tail it out of there. I was so disappointedand bummed out. But we have the second WI season to get revenge! Sunday we had nothing but coyotes in the morning, so we did the running and gunning and did work a bird to within 50 yards of us but he left with a hen. They will be in trouble in a couple of weeks. The pictures are of the tom that came in, the bearded that made an appearnce, a couple of coyotes and some hens that flew out of the roost! The pictures are not the best…they are stills from the video I was shooting. The 4th pic is of a coyote that bedded down about 75 yards from us!
