I’m heading up North this weekend to do some turkey scouting and to pattern the shotgun. Given the Cost of turkey loads I’d like to narrow down the choices some. I know that it all depends on each gun. Just curious what load most all of you here shoot. I have 2 gun options. A 870 remington with a 26″ barrell with a Extra Full turkey choke tube or a mossberg with a 23″ barrell with a extra full tube. I see from some reasearch online that the trend is twards smaller shot size that I use to use many years ago. I use to shoot either 2’s or 4’s then and now I see that a lot of people are now shooting 6’s. I’m stopping at Cabela’s on my way out and hope to narrow my load choices to 2 or 3. Thanks in advance for all of the thoughts and responses

I’ve had great success with the Winchester Supreme Double X Magnum Turkey Loads, number 5 shot.

    Good luck.

i’ve shot more toms with those shells than any other loads.

the ‘ol mossy 3-inch 12 w/xtra tight choke seems to like them.

Yep…mossberg 835, extra full turkey choke chambered with the 3 or 3 1/2 Winchester #5 has been the ticket for me for years now.

    Gut,

I thought you were using your BOW this year! This is my first year turkey hunting, where I set aside time to actually hunt these Thunder Chickens. Bring on the season!
