Mild weather

So has the mild weather this spring got the turkey’s ahead of schedule this year? While scouting this past weekend my brother and I saw for the 1st time a tom breeding a hen. Most of the toms we saw were alone when at this time last year they seemed to be grouped up yet! Is this weather speeding up the process? What affect is that going to have on later seasons? My son will be participating in the WI Youth Hunt this up coming weekend and I think we should have a great chance at his first bird!

We saw a mix this weekend out scounting. Several small groups of toms, with an occasional hen. The toms were sure talking though. It was a lot of fun listening to them. We did see a few small groups of hens without toms, but I suspect it won’t be long.

I don’t know anything about turkeys but the weekend before last my brother and I saw over 20 in a group 500 yards across a field. Hard to see but there were at least three toms running around strutting their stuff going nuts for the 20 minutes we watched them.

Mike, I had videos of toms struttting a month ago already. Whether or not the hens were receptive I don’t know but they were giving it their all.
