Kids turkey hunting

    I know this i asked this once but cant find it with kids being able to buy over the counter tags whats the min age they can go hunt i want to take my nephew hunting this year and he is 6 going on 7 here soon and he really wants to shoot a bird could he go thanks guys

    There is no minimum age(for turkeys). I took my son when he was the same age, however some licensing agents can make it very frustrating if they do not know the rules.

    Hey thanks good luck to you to if you got a tag what gauge gun did your son shoot i have a youth twenty but have not got him out to shoot it to see if its to much for him i got a couple friends that have a 410 as well just not sure what would be best yet thanks

    I would stick with the 20. Let him practice with light loads so he doesn’t get gun shy, then slip in a turkey load for the big day……he won’t even notice the recoil when he’s shooting at a turkey

    Sounds like a good idea to me -) im more exited to help him get his first turkey then i am to hunt well that and i talked my fw grandpa into putting in a app this year for the first time and blew my mind that he got drawn his first time i just smiled and told him not i get to teach you a few things

    I think you should use the 20ga so the kid isn’t breaking the law on his first turkey hunt.

    It is very important that mentors know the laws and regulations. It is also very important that saftey is held to the highest standards while hunting with youth. If you have trouble finding a regulation book contact your local DNR officer or the main office in St. Paul. They will help you out with any questions.

    I will check everything over once the season is a bit closer i fallow all laws when it comes to hunting and fishing i had not had a chance to look into it much yet thanks for the heads up though
