I believe it means you have to pull a permit to do any alterations such as shoreline alterations. The lake may be more of a wetland than a lake?

If you are looking for land to build on…watch out for the boundries and set-back requirements for wetlands. Wetlands can become a very complex issue for establing a suitable building pad for a home or any other structure.

My lot is roughly 500 feet deep and has a wetland. The setbacks for me are 100′ from any designated wetland boundry which is about 30′ into mt rear yard. This means that I can not even place a shed within the D-130′ by W-300′ rear area of my yard. So of the 500′ deep, I am set back from the road 100′, house/garage/deck is about 80′, and the 130′ wetland barrier, I have about 190′ left in the middle of my property to place a pool or any other structure. I know of people who bought land and never realized they couldn’t fit a simple 2000 sqft ranch on it al all. Do your homework!!!

Good question. I just read in the Outdoor News about a ton of tags left. How do you find out which areas you can purchase over the counter or on line?

Also to note, those who applied and unsuccessfully have first dibs on surplus tags starting 5pm on march 15th. Those who did not apply but wish to purchase a surplus tag, you can do so starting march 22 8am.

Found it…its for 17 years and under..
Applications for 2010 Spring Turkey Season are out!

New for 2010 is all kids (17 and under) do NOT have to enter the lottery! All you have to do starting March 1st, 2010 is go in an buy the license for the time and zone you want OVER THE COUNTER!

ALSO new for 2010 ~ There will be no second chance drawing for the last three seasons. Permit levels in the last two time periods (G & H) have been increased. Virtually making it a guarantee to go turkey hunting in these two time periods. And if you don’t get drawn for a permit in the first 6 time periods, there should be enough Surplus Tags in most zones to buy those tags over the counter if you want to go then.

57,000 tags are available next year in the lottery ~ only 57,000 people applied last year (and that included about 6,000 kids)

So congratulations NWTF members ~ it looks like everyone that wants to really go turkey hunting next year – can go!

At the gun shop today talking turkey and an interesting question arose. Under 17 are unlimited over the counter, is that even in the zones with only a handfull of tags? About 30% of the zones in MN have fewer than 25 permits availiable, many of those have ten or less. What happens when a large group of youngsters start taking turkeys out of that area? In my sons situation he will have a chance to harvest 11 years in a row, where as I’ll maybe get 3 or 4 permits during the same time frame. Don’t get me wrong the under 17 rule was a good change, but it seems every year in all zones may not be the right thing for some areas?

This topic came up at work today and as usuwal the MN DNR is not clear and leaves us with more questions than answers if these tags are for gun or bow hunters or both?????

Surplus (or undersubscribed) turkey hunt licenses are available to hunters who applied in the 2010 turkey lottery drawing but were unsuccessful. Surplus licenses will go on sale beginning March 15, 2010, at 5:00 p.m.

On Monday, March 22, at 8 a.m. the remaining surplus licenses will go on sale for anyone who does not already have a license, even if they did not apply for the 2010 spring turkey lottery. All turkey hunters are restricted to one permit for the 2010 spring season.

You can purchase surplus licenses on a first-come, first-served basis at any ELS license agent or online at http://www.wildlifelicense.com/mn/.

An archery spring turkey license can be purchased that is valid for the last two time periods only in any permit area with 50 or more permits per time period. Lottery applicants that are successful in the 2010 spring turkey lottery will not be eligible to purchase an archery spring turkey license.
