Does anyone know if kids need to apply for their license or can they buy them over the counter?

Whats the min age for turkey

Joel is correct. Under 17 tags are OTC.

The minimum age to hunt in MN does not exist. As long as they have a parent with they can be any age. It is a pain in the butt to get a DNR # for them, and I would suggest that you do that before the season starts. Don’t let the staff that answers the phone tell you that he/she is too young. We have had problems with this in other states too. It seems when you want to get a turkey tag for a 6 year old everyone thinks your crazy, and its not legal.

Here you go! As long as you have a firearm certificate and his parents will allow you to be the guardian you are in business!

    From the handbook:

Anyone under age 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to
possess a firearm. “Guardian” means a legal guardian or someone age 18
or older selected by the parent or legal guardian to supervise the youth.
    • Youth age 12 and under may hunt small game without a firearms
safety certificate, if accompanied by a parent or guardian.
    • Youth age 11 and under may hunt wild turkeys without a firearms safety
certificate if accompanied by a parent or guardian who has a certificate.

Excellent NEWS! Thanks for the leg work on this one CW!

I have some nephews myself that are nearing that age where I think they are repsonsible enough!
