first fall turkey

    Took this 20lb 3/4″ spurs and 5″ beard bird on Saturday the 24th near Forada MN after 2 days of pattering them and then changing my set up. After 2 hours of kee-kee calls a flock of 18 game out of the woods at about 9:05am (20 minutes early from the past 2 days)into a half harvested bean field toward my decoys. I was not sure if they would respond to the decoys in the fall but they came right to em. Not the biggest bird I shot, but for the first time fall hunting, I’ll take it!

    Right on! Way to stick it to that fall bird, which it sounds like you spent your due diligence on. Sounds like this bird was mixed in with some hens and young of the year jennys. When you can get that lead bird in a flock like that interested in your calling and/or dekes, it’s usually a done deal. Fall birds like the protection a flock offers, and you used that to your advantage – congrats again! Can’t wait for spring already!
