First of all i have to say that this spring archery season has been phenomenal for me Ive seen tons of gobblers and have had some heartbreaking close calls Now to Tuesdays hunt, If you recognize the farm equipment in the video, it’s where i took pictures of my jake from sunday. You can see the jake decoy right at the edge of the field because we had the blind set up 15 yards from it on the fence line just to the left of the decoy. However, we had birds gobbling behind us in the same pine tree area where the gobbler hung up on Sunday morning just out of range AGAIN!! So my brother and i moved the blind closer to try and call these birds in and set up Pretty Girl 10-15 yards from us. That being said, these birds made a circle and came with in 35 yards of where we were initially set up this morning, right in front of the farm equipment
So my question is, what now??? Both times i have hunted here, the birds have come up through that pine tree area and strutted and gobbled. So my brother and i are going to put the blind on top of the draw where the birds will make their way through the pine tree area, to the field.
Is this the right move?? Also, im questioning these birds sexual preference now From the video you can see that the birds were feeding right towards our set up but i guess they weren’t interested enough. I know its late season, but as you can see from the video that the Toms wanted nothing to do with the hen they were with Would it be a bad idea to put out Pretty Boy with a real jake fan?? They are responding very well to calling but the closest these birds got was 51 yards I didn’t want my brother shooting that far because of risking what could happen…Its important to note that the farmer JUST planted alfalfa seeds and thats what the birds were eating, so should i expect them to be feeding here daily??
Let me know what you guys think, and enjoy the video!!!!
