I went out this morning and it was pretty quiet on my Metro hunt. We hunted for a few hours and then made our way into work. We did not hear one bird and their was quite a few in the area in the last week or so?????? There was plenty of sign in the area, but no birds this morming. Steve did see one scoot out when we went on a recon mission to find out where they were.

It was still a beautiful crisp morning to be in the blind and I really enjoyed the morning even though we had a very quiet morning. Thanks Steve it was great morning spending some time with ya. I think our camera man fell asleep from all the excitement. . Thanks for coming Brad!

Oh well there is always tomorrow.

We are headed off to a different farm tomorrow! I’ll report back when I can!

Unfortunetely I was the guide this morning. Some days that’s how it goes with turkeys. The turkeys have been there every day this past week…just not today. Don’t worry LIP…that’s why I have multiple farms. We will be on birds tomorrow, you have my word on that!

It was great meeting you Brad and I look forward to better days in the woods with ya real soon!

As for the turkeys this morning…

Better luck tommorow! It’s amazing how they can be thick one day and not a single one around the next.

I was also out for two hours before work. Birds had moved about 3/4 mile from Sunday. I carried Hunter (my 6 yr old son) on my shoulders in, after we figured out they had moved. With his 55#, my vest, gun, and acessories, we just couldn’t get in front of the birds. They were still gobbling when 8:00 rolled around, but we had to leave, work was calling…..literally. Sure is hard to leave gobbling birds, oh well.

Thanks Steve and Rob for letting me tag along! It was a beautiful morning to be outside observing nature as it happens. I’ve hunted many, many times thinking that this is going to be a slam dunk, only to be humbled again and again. One thing for sure, is there was certainly a lot of turkey sign around.

Besides, why would anyone want to kill a tom on the first morning anyways and then have to work the rest of the time?

That’s why I take the boat with me…the last three out of four seasons I’ve taken my bird opening morning. Then it’s walleye on the mighty Mississippi! I couldn’t go out like you guys and hunt for a couple of hours and then leave to go to work! I wouldn’t get anything done at work…kind of like NOW!

Rob. Looking forward to a better report today, not that it was a bad report, just a better end result. Good luck today.

The Drenalin whispered this morning. Full report to come after getting a few fires put out at work, this morning. He’s got the biggest hooks of any bird I have killed. Scaled out at 23#2oz, with a 10.75″ beard.
