I just called Gander and asked about the turkey seasons and what they cost. To my pleasant surprise there are 4 seasons for shot gun and bow season runs at the same time as all the gun seasons but continous and they start around the 12 or 15th. There are four seasons for shotgun and get this, you can buy two tags and hunt two of the seasons out of the four with shotgun. You can also buy two tags for bow and hunt the entire length of shotgun and there is no limit on the number of available tags.
As the shotgun seasons progress each season is a little longer. The last season of shotgun runs almost two weeks until around May 13th, the first running about 4 days. I told him I think springs running a couple weeks behind and he says guys are saying that too. He said they are selling most tags for the 2nd and 4th seasons.
Ive been giving permission to hunt a big island where the turkeys roost at night up on the Cedar river so im going to go check that out and look for feathers and sign and spend a couple late afternoons there and leave at night, to watch where they roost. If it looks good I’ll see whats available for a blind and build that after they leave the island to feed. Maybe I’ll get lucky my first time shotgunning for turkeys, it would be nice, maybe I’ll buy a bow tag too.
