What are your thoughts on setting up a pop up turkey blind in the middle of a field? How do turkeys react in your experiences? I’ve got 2 spots on ridge tops that you just can’t hunt worth a darn unless you put a blind right in the open field on top of the ridge. I just got a nice little blind and have been considering trying it out this year at these 2 spots but am unsure how well it will work.

I agree, I have been out in the WIDE, WIDE open with a blind that didn’t even really blend into the terrain that well and I still had birds come in 3-4 yards away. I would not even hesitate to do it again.

Never had a single issue with it. Just like lip said, they’ll come right in and wont think twice about the blind.

Not only is it OK, it’s advised.

I prefer the pop-out hub style blinds like the Covert or Double-Bull, as esp. in the open like that, wind blowing loose fabric around can make turkeys nervous. Esp. in a bow-hunting situation.

The beauty of an in-field setup, is that you can really utilize the structure of the field and the topography to your advantage.

If I know birds are typically visiting a certain side or corner of a field, with a gun, I’ll setup 40 yards diagonally into the field from the corner. This way, a turkey skirting either field edge is in range, and I also can cover behind me and into the field! It’s a great way to cover more territory by removing the traditional blind spot you have on an edge-of-field setup.

    Good luck!

Go with the blind, I have a cheap blind that you can’t see 360 out of and the turkeys can pop up out of no where,I am looking at a new blind for this year.

Thanks for the insight. Unless I get a hot tip somewhere else for opening day, I’ll be setup in one of those 2 locations I spoke of and we’ll see what happens.
