anybody else chase toms in the fall shotgun season? looks like the turkey forum could use some action.

got this guy yesterday morning. 20 pounds, thick 8 inch beard and 1 inch spurs.

a buddy roosted some birds the night before. with the wind howling, they roosted in a ravine out of the wind and we set up on ridges on each side of them. it was odd that when they flew down, they kind of went off their separate ways instead of staying in the flock.

i started calling, got several reponses and it took about half an hour to work one within shooting range.

a glass call with a hardwood striker makes awesome gobbler clucks and yelps.

ya, we can. all birds are legal – at least in illinois – in the fall. toms are a lot tougher to call in the fall.

In Mn the fall hunt is “EITHER SEX”. Not hens only as the previous poster claims. Congrats on the nice bird!

Nice work on the tom. I have always wonder what it would be like to shoot one in the fall compared to the spring.

I wish my area would offer a fall season.

    Nice work
